Hair Loss
Hair loss is something that both genders must face as they age, although men are much more likely to experience heredity hair loss over women. Despite this fact, gradual baldness due to heredity traits can occur in both men and women, although hair loss in men is generally associated with a receding hair line, while hair loss in women is generally associated with thinning of the hair overall.
Hair loss can be treated with a variety of products that range from shampoos to surgery to conditioning agents or growth stimulants. However, as the hair loss industry is a massive money-spinner due to the sensitivity surrounding hair loss, it is worthwhile to do some research before purchasing a product, as many do not actually work.
The best way to choose a hair loss treatment plan that will work for you is via a consultation with a doctor to determine the cause of hair loss and then seeking out the best method in your particular case. Outside of male or female pattern baldness, health, diseases, a high level of stress, cancer, and hormonal imbalances have all been known to cause significant hair loss in both genders. For this reason, it is important to identify the underlying cause of baldness before beginning treatment in the case that there is a more serious cause than simple genetics.
The most popular form of baldness is male or female pattern baldness and over 80% of men will have experienced some hair loss by age sixty. This is generally understood to occur because of the abundance of a chemical known as DHT in the neurons of the brain, which reaches the hair follicles and destroys them slowly.
Many types of hair loss treatments are formulated to fight the effects of DHT, with two common treatments known as DHT inhibitors and antiandrogens designed to aid with hair loss. DHT inhibitors as the name implies eliminates DHT from the body allowing follicles to return to their healthy natural state and prevents against future hair loss.
Andtiandrogens on the other hand block DHT from reaching the hair follicles but do not eliminate its presence from the body, thus eliminating the side effects of sudden hormonal withdrawal, which some men and women complain about in conjunction with hair treatment products.
Outside of these two formulas for fighting hair loss, anti-inflammatory shampoos are also used to address the redness and itchy scalp that often accompanies hair loss as a result of the damaged follicles. Although this will not usually prevent hair loss, it will rejuvenate your hair follicles and when used in conjunction with another type of treatment bring you immediate relief.
The other common tool against hair loss is growth stimulants, which stimulate new hair to begin new growth. However, they do not actually address the cause of hair loss, so as you start to grow new hair you will also still have to contend with gradual hair loss. Thus, they also work best when used in conjunction with some type of DHT based treatment plan.
