Hair Loss Treatments

Hair loss can be depressive for both men and women, although women often suffer more as they tend suffer in silence due to the social avoidance of the problem.  Despite this fact, men are more likely to experience hair loss with over 80% of all men experiencing some type of hair loss by the time they reach age sixty.

For this reason there are a variety of hair loss treatments on the market and billions of pounds are spent every year in an attempt to reverse hair loss or rejuvenate hair growth.

Despite the fact that there are thousands of products in the marketplace that advertise their brands as hair loss treatments, medically and scientifically speaking a great number of these products hold little value.

For this reason, it is important to understand the actual types of hair loss treatments there are out there that will bring solid results to ensure that your money is spent wisely and on a product that will work for you.

There are four major types of hair loss treatments on the market today, although most people are only aware of brand names such as Rogaine and Propecia, which coincidently represent two different types of hair loss treatments.  Broken down, it is easier to see which type of treatment will hold the best value and results for you.

DHT Inhibitors

DHT Inhibitors are focused on curing male pattern and female pattern baldness by addressing the presence of DHT in your genetic makeup.  Thus, they are one of the best solutions for heredity hair loss.

The basic aim of DHT inhibitors is to lessen the amount of DHT found in your scalp so that your follicles get relief from the damage that it can bring.  Common products that use DHT inhibitors are Revivogen and Propecia.

They are usually marketed as products that will stop hair loss and often are compounded with other hair loss products to lay the foundation of stopping hair loss so that other products can them help rejuvenate hair growth.

Growth Stimulants

Growth stimulants as the category title implies are used to help rejuvenate hair so that it begins to grow again even after hair loss has occurred.  Common products that fall into this category include Tricomin and Rogain Foam.

There are negative and positive side effects to using hair growth stimulants primarily because they do not actually address the cause of the hair loss or the continual hair loss that will still occur.  In other words, they temporarily help treat a problem but in the long term will not help you treat your hair loss.

However, growth stimulants when combined with other products can be a successful way to address hair loss and find a treatment that results in a full head of hair again.

Anti-Inflammatory

Anti-inflammatory treatments as the name implies are used to help reduce the redness, inflammation, and itching that can occur when hair loss occurs, which is the result of immune and hormonal system reactions that are occurring on your scalp.  Without the use of an anti-inflammatory your hair loss treatments will not bring you complete relief.

Some of the most common anti-inflammatory treatments available on the market today are Nizoral Shampoo, Folligen, and Tricomin which can cross over into this category as well.

Anti-inflammatory treatments work best when they are used as part of a daily regime such as a gel or a shampoo soak that can be applied during a shower for a few minutes.

Depending on the strength of the product you may only want to use it three or four times a week, so be careful to follow the instructions or you may risk further damage to your hair.

Antiandrogens

Antiandrogens also are formulated to address hair loss as a result of DHT in the genetic makeup of the body.  For this reason, this type of hair loss treatment will only work on those who suffer from heredity hair loss.

However, unlike DHT inhibitors, which work by eliminating the presence of DHT in the hair follicle, antiandrogens work by stopping the DHT from actually reaching the follicle.

The advantage of using this method of hair loss treatment for men is that the side effects of lowered DHT levels in the body will not occur, and your natural hormone levels will stay the same.

Although, for ultimate hair loss treatment some people actually decide to use an antiandrogen and a DHT inhibitor at the same with a growth stimulant on the side so that all facets of hair loss and rejuvenation can be actualized.  One of the most popular types of antiandrogens is Topical Spironolactone.

Although these are the four major types of hair loss treatments, there are other reasons for balding that are not heredity causes.  If you suffer from hair loss due to medication side effects, extreme stress, anxiety, health disorders, or health diseases you will need to look into other treatments potentially or how to reduce these factors’ presence in your life.

If you need to eliminate medication or a health disorder it is best to proceed with the aid of a doctor as it can be dangerous to make any potentially serious health decisions on your own.

A doctor can also advise you on the use of the four major types of hair loss treatments and if one may still be able to aid you, although the cause of your baldness may not be an abundance of DHT.

Finally, one additional hair loss treatment is the use of surgical implants to replace hair follicles and stimulate growth of the hair again.  Unlike growth stimulant treatment however, surgery will not actually prevent future hair loss from occurring, but will instead only foster a fuller, thicker head of hair for a short period of time similar to a facelift which cannot stop the process of aging but mask it for a little longer.
